An Ant Man movie could actually be good if they just go totally funny with it. They don't all have to be action dramas with isolated humor. I've heard that Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright might be attached to it. If so, that could work!

Yeah, the sheer number of movies worries me too. Though it is spread out through 2011 so that's something. I'm assuming the Wolverine movie is gonna kick ass, how can it not? But Ant-Man? I didn't even know who that character was so I looked him up. Good luck with that one....

I went into the first Hulk movie expecting that I'd like the story but think the special effects sucked -- because based on the commercials, they didn't look great. Ironically, I ended up kind of liking the way Hulk looked, but Ang Lee somehow mangled the Hulk origin story so badly that I barely even recognized it. Which might have been okay if what he came up with made any sense ... but it really didn't.

The comic book spent years establishing how Bruce Banner's father FIGURATIVELY created the Hulk by abusing Bruce and his mom when he was a kid, thereby filling him with a rage that he was never able to harness until the gamma rays changed him. Ang Lee spent two hours literalizing that, thereby diluting all the power of the myth.

What's more, Ang Lee made the story so complicated that we didn't even get to SEE the Hulk until AN HOUR into the movie. Want to know when you get to see the Hulk in Issue #1 of the original comic? Page 5 -- because Stan Lee understood that nobody who buys a comic with a big green (actually gray at the time) monster on the cover wants to wait until halfway into the comic to see that monster.

So there you have that. The movie wasn't really bad from an acting perspective or anything, and parts of it are great fun to watch -- Hulk smashing and all that. But the story was weak. And when there are 40 YEARS of Hulk stories to choose from, that just doesn't seem excusable.

I am both jazzed and terrified by Marvel's announcement that they plan to make all those movies in the next couple of years, based on the success of this one. Because ... you know ... they can't all be good movies. In fact, at least one of them is statistically destined to downright suck. Which would suck. It's easy to get excited about the prospects when we're coming off a winner like this ... but then you remember the first Hulk movie.

Hopefully, with Marvel in charge, the movies will do a better job of staying true to the source material, like this one did. But it's such a crap shoot. So much depends on getting the right director and writer and actors. The common thread so far between Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the first two X-Men movies is that the directors were huge comic book geeks who also happened to be respected directors. But then I think Ang Lee was too. So who's to say?

But hey, even if they have to break a few eggs now and then, at least we'll get an occasional omelet like this one. So it's all good.

Wow, I'm impressed, a review with no spoilers. Mine is full of them! Haha. I did really enjoy it though. I've never even read a Iron Man comic, although I know his story. They couldn't have made a better choice with Industrial Light and Magic.

I was SUPPOSED to see it on Saturday, but failed to for various reasons. I can't wait though - I wasn't a huge Iron Man fan, but I always thought he was one of the cooler looking super heroes.

I loved it, too, and I knew practically nothing about Iron Man going in.

RE: Iron Man vs. Spider-Man
I said the same thing to someone on Saturday, when asked what I thought of the movie. I said I thought it was at least as good as the first two Spider-Man movies, which is to say, at least as good as the best modern superhero movies.

And yes, I'll grudgingly admit that Paltrow is good in it, too.
