Not sure if this movie will be any good or not. The story looks like it’s all over the place, complete with a collection of B-List Marvel heroes/villains (Sabertooth, Gambit, The Blob, and possibly a young Storm) tossed in for flavor. But at least visually, the trailer is compelling …

First of all, how awesome is that cover? I’ve been extremely happy with the artwork on the inside of Buffy Season 8 throughout the run (something I can’t say about Angel: ATF), but Jo Chen’s painted covers have really been the icing on the cake. I have to figure that Alyson Hannigan has this framed in her house somewhere, right?

Yeah, I know, it’s been ages since I posted one of these. I finished the scripts for several new ones a while ago, but hadn’t gotten around to putting them together.
Anyway, welcome a new character to the stage. If you don’t recognize who it is, you can always cheat by looking all the way at the bottom of the post.
Hint: the year should pretty much give it away.

I’m actually a fan of the show, and enjoy it most of all when they give us cameos of other heroes from the DC comics universe. So far, we’ve seen Aquaman, Flash, Green Arrow, Mockingbird, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Supergirl, and … probably somebody else I’m forgetting. And now they’re adding to that list Cosmic Boy, Lightning Boy Lad, and Saturn Girl, founding members of the Legion of Super-Heroes, who will travel back in time from the 31st Century, presumably to help Clark out with his Doomsday problem. Even better news for DC fans out there, the episode will be written by Geoff Johns.
It’s being reported that Josh Schwartz, creator/writer of shows like The O.C., Chuck, and Gossip Girl, will be penning the next X-Men movie, to be tentatively titled either “X-Men: First Class” or “Young X-Men”, depending on which news article you read. All that seems to be established so far is that it will be a story of teenage mutants dealing with their powers — hence the reason for bringing Josh Schwartz on to write the script. Whether those teenagers will be younger versions of the adult X-Men that have already been in the films or the New Mutants from the 80s or the lesser-known characters from the recent “Young X-Men” series, it remains to be seen.
So … take that for what it’s worth. I’ve actually been enjoying Chuck, and having watched more of The O.C. with my wife than I care to admit, I have to say that when Schwartz himself wrote the episodes, they seemed to work well. He’s a comic book geek, so he “gets it”, and hopefully he’ll carry that over into the franchise. As far as character development is concerned, he really can’t do much worse than Brett Ratner did with X3, as far as I’m concerned. The X-Men comics have always worked first and foremost as a metaphor for 1) racism/intolerance and 2) the anxiety of puberty. And I feel confident that Schwartz can at least pull off the second half of that equation.
To date, no director has been attached to the film yet.

According to Marvel Comics, it’s official. We’ll be seeing the Iron Man sequel in May 2010 and the first (live-action) movie featuring The Avengers in July 2011. The only lineup they’ve committed to so far for The Avengers is Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk …
There are two kinds of people — those who love Unbreakable … and everybody else. I’m referring, of course, to M. Night Shyamalan’s second movie. The one that largely got panned for not having a twist ending as cool as his first movie. Which, don’t get me wrong, I really liked The Sixth Sense. I saw it twice — once to be shocked by the ending, then a second time to go back and figure out how I hadn’t seen it coming. But Unbreakable I’ve probably watched a dozen times now, and every time I get to the end, I say the same thing: “I really wish M. Night would make the sequel already.”
Turns out my wish may come true!
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the movie was always intended to be the first in a trilogy. This means that if he does make a sequel, it will be something he’s already put thought into, something that the first movie was intended to mesh with, and not just an add-on for the sake of itself.
