In every group of friends, there’s inevitably an asshole that the rest of the friends only tolerate. (According to Dane Cook, if you have to ask who it is in your group, then odds are, it’s YOU.) Well the same is true in the world of comic books and superheroes, and Cracked.com has compiled a hilarious list of the worst offenders …
In case the title of this post and the nice logo above didn’t pretty much give it away, Saturday May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day. This is a single day each year when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away certain comic books absolutely FREE. Now don’t get crazy — these stores aren’t just throwing away profits. There are specific comics, contributed by the publishers as part of the promotion, and each store has a per-person limit. The idea is to reward existing comic book fans, and hopefully create some new ones.
So find a participating store near you, and be sure to go get your free comics tomorrow!
In honor of the smoking hot new Iron Man movie hitting the theaters this weekend, I decided to visit YouTube and dig up 20 examples of how Hollywood has attempted to bring comic book superheroes to life over the years.
Some of these you may be familiar with already. Some may be gems from your childhood that you’ve long since forgotten. And some I’m certain will thrill you for the very first time. I’ve broken them out into four classes: The Good, The Bad, The Campy, and the Kind of Interesting.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, and most of these are TV shows — but my goal here wasn’t to find the best examples, just the most entertaining ones, either from a nostalgia or a cringe-worthy perspective. I’ve red-starred a few of my favorite clips. Please to enjoy …
Overall, the New York Comic Con was fun this year. Really, for me, when a giant room full of comic books is involved, you can’t go too far wrong. Yet even though this year’s con was a huge improvement over two years ago … and even though it was a heck of a lot nicer to schlep into Manhattan at the start of Spring rather than the tail end of Winter … I have to admit, I preferred last year’s con to this one, for a variety of reasons.
