I read something over at Topless Robot the other day that’s had me chuckling to myself all weekend, so I have to share it. Shaun Clayton’s post was “The 5 Reasons Luke Skywalker is a Complete Idiot“, and while the list as a whole was very funny, his dialogue play for #3 is what I haven’t been able to get out of my head. So I’ve decided to reprint it here, with a few additions, some creative edits, and photos.

This weekend, I got the new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game for the Wii for my birthday. Gotta say, this is a pretty cool game that for me lives up to the summer’s worth of hype that led up to it.
The basic story premise is this: Between the third and forth Star Wars movies — Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope — Darth Vader finds a child who is strong in the Force, makes him a secret apprentice, and trains him as an adult to be a powerful spy/assassin. This character, Starkiller, is able to wield the Force with an intensity that we’ve never seen before in the movies, and you basically spend the game kicking the crap out of everything that moves. Very simple. Very satisfying. Like how it felt to play the first 3D “Doom” game … but moreso.
Okay, so last week, Yahoo! posted a list of its users’ “Top-30 Sci-Fi Films“. And I’m not sure what to make of it. First off, it’s Yahoo Users, so you can’t take it TOO seriously — the average user must skew somewhat young, and probably doesn’t make a living reviewing movies.
On the up side, I was actually surprised to see that half the movies on the list were more than 10 years old, with most of that half more than 20 years old. On the down side … all three X-Men movies? Revenge of the Sith? I Am Legend? Only one movie older than Star Wars? Really? (More of my commentary after the list itself.)

This is a project I started working on a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t really want to share it with the world until I’d proved the concept to myself. Ten installments later, I think I’ve done that. Well, between now and May 13th, to celebrate the pending release of Invincible, the final chapter in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series, Random House and Del Rey are letting the general public download a FREE audio or digital version of Betrayal, the first book in the series.
Spanning 9 volumes, the Legacy of the Force series deals with events that occur in the Star Wars universe starting roughly 40 years after the original trilogy of movies (Episodes 4-6). Luke, Han, and Leia are back, but much older now, and they all have kids. And one of this new generation has not quite lived up to the standards established by his/her parents. Yes, you guessed it — somebody gets seduced by the Dark Side. And yes there’s a war. And yes … there is a Big Bad Sith Villain behind that war, a student of Darth Vader, who needs to be taken down.
I haven’t read the series myself, but it sounds like great fun, and each of the books have received excellent reviews. So I’ve already downloaded the audio version, and I’ll be adding it to my iPod this weekend. Remember, the offer ends May 13th, so if you’re going to download it, do it soon. Here’s the link again …
Overall, the New York Comic Con was fun this year. Really, for me, when a giant room full of comic books is involved, you can’t go too far wrong. Yet even though this year’s con was a huge improvement over two years ago … and even though it was a heck of a lot nicer to schlep into Manhattan at the start of Spring rather than the tail end of Winter … I have to admit, I preferred last year’s con to this one, for a variety of reasons.
