This weekend, I got the new Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game for the Wii for my birthday. Gotta say, this is a pretty cool game that for me lives up to the summer’s worth of hype that led up to it.
The basic story premise is this: Between the third and forth Star Wars movies — Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope — Darth Vader finds a child who is strong in the Force, makes him a secret apprentice, and trains him as an adult to be a powerful spy/assassin. This character, Starkiller, is able to wield the Force with an intensity that we’ve never seen before in the movies, and you basically spend the game kicking the crap out of everything that moves. Very simple. Very satisfying. Like how it felt to play the first 3D “Doom” game … but moreso.
So for whatever reason, the universe has been bombarding me with memory triggers of my old Atari 2600 lately …
Bomb #1: A couple months ago, I ran across a very funny blog entry at MightyGodKing.com, wherein he’s photoshopped alternative titles onto some classic Atari/Activision games.
Bomb #2: The Daily Shark has been posting his memories of his favorite various Atari 2600 games the past few weeks, including Adventure, Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Bomb #3: The other day I found a site called AtariAge.com, which along with other great material has pages upon pages of screenshots of dozens of Atari games.
Bomb #4: On Friday, Wil Wheaton posted a link to a great article he’d found …
